Here you can see the location of the OBD-II connector in the selected car model. To do this, left-click on the button.

System selection window in ScanDoc program

After communication with the electronic control unit (ECU) is established, the program will show the sections of the diagnostic module.
Different ECU blocks may have a different number of sections.

Depending on the type of ECU or diagnostic protocol, it can take from 0.5 to 15 seconds to start working with the ECU. Some ECUs take longer. This may be due to both the peculiarities of the diagnostic protocol itself and the reading of the vehicle configuration by the scanner.

The DTC section shows the number of DTC errors.

Section "Identification"

ScanDoc identification menu

In the identification section, you can see the identification data of the ECU. This data is necessary to determine the version of the software and hardware, the version of the calibrations of the control units. The identification data also contains additional information necessary for the correct diagnosis of this control unit.

The program controls the software versions in the ECU and identifiers. If the program reads an unknown identifier, a corresponding message is displayed. Continuing work in this case is impossible or limited. Sometimes you can continue to work by accepting responsibility for the risks.

Section "Fault Codes" (DTC)

The Fault Codes section displays the error codes (DTC) that the electronic control unit has stored, their status and decoding.

Fault Code List (DTC)

Most ECUs, in addition to storing the error number, can display the current error status in an additional column. Statuses show additional information on the code. For example, that the code is active or missing at the moment.

The scanner reads the error code and decodes it. The error may be numbered as specified by the manufacturer or by the OBD-II standard.

To send a command to delete DTCs from the ECU, press the button Clear button.

The OBD-II standard also provides codes defined by the manufacturer. These codes begin with the number P1000.

Errors defined by the OBD-II standard

Symbol Decryption
P P - Powertrain
B - Body
C - Chassis
U - Communication.
0 0 - Codes are defined by the OBD-II standard.
1 - Codes defined by the manufacturer.
1 System or vehicle code.

Some manufacturers standards only assume the numerical value of the error.

Freeze frame

Some blocks support the Freeze frame mode. When an error occurs, information about certain parameters is recorded in the memory of the control unit. This allows you to determine the conditions under which the error occurred. Freeze frame is recorded separately for each error.

If the Freeze frame is available for the error, the error name is displayed in orange in the form of a link. For information, click on the name of the error. Freeze frame will appear under error.

Some ECUs provide several Freeze frames with a single error code. Data is usually stored before, during, and after the appearance of the DTC.

If decryption is not defined for the error code, then you should contact technical support, as well as the dealer description for car repair.

Data Stream Section

ScanDoc identification menu

In the "Data Stream" you can see the current information read from the sensors of the control unit.

In ECUs operating under the ISO-9141, KW71, KW-1284 protocols, each diagnostic parameter is requested separately by the scanner. Each request takes about 0.1 seconds. It takes about 1 second to display 10 parameters. The more parameters are displayed on the screen, the more time the screen will refresh.

Searching in the parameter stream

If you only need to see specific parameters. In which a specific word or abbreviation is mentioned, such as "Fuel". Start writing it in the search box. As you type, the parameters will be selected in the name of which the word "Fuel" is present.

To deselect parameters, delete all text in the search window.

The selection is carried out for all read parameters, even if they are not shown on the screen.

Working with filters

In the "Data stream" tab, you can filter only the required parameters by creating your own set of filters. Filter sets are needed to quickly display your pre-selected parameters.

Filter creation

Working with filters is carried out in the program settings window.

Filter Sets

Click on the button at the top of the window, an additional side menu will appear.

Click on the "Options" button in the side menu, you will be taken to the program settings window.

At the end of the list of settings there will be an item "Filters Sets"

To create a new filter, click the Add filter button

Filter editing

You will see the filter editing window:

  1. Filter name (enter a unique name to make it easier for you to search for this filter among others);
  2. List with added parameters to the filter;
  3. General list of all possible parameters;
  4. Filter removal button (if you need to remove the entire filter);
Adding a parameter to a filter

How to quickly create a set of your own parameters:

  1. To quickly find a parameter from the general list, enter its name in the search line of the right table (on the right - a table with all possible parameters);
  2. Select the one you need and put a checkbox on it, now the parameter has appeared in the left table (on the left - the table with the parameters you added);

If you need to remove a parameter from your filter, uncheck this parameter in the left table.

The filter is saved automatically, after editing the list of parameters, just press the Close button

Apply filter

You can apply the filter on the "Data stream" tab

Apply filter

Above the list of parameters in the data stream, you can see a drop-down list with filters.

Click on a filter name to apply it to the current list of parameters.

If the parameters that are in the filter are not in the current ECU, then the filter will not appear in the drop-down list.

For example, the filter O2 sensors consists of the parameters "O2 sensor 1, bank 1" and "O2 sensor 2, bank 1".
If you connect to the AirBag ECU, the O2 Sensors filter will not appear in the drop-down list, because the parameters "O2 Sensor 1, Bank 1" and "O2 Sensor 2, Bank 1" are not present in the Airbag ECU.

Apply filter

If you apply a filter, then only those parameters that are in the filter and are present in the ECU will be displayed.

  1. To the right of the drop-down list, you can see the name of the applied filter;
  2. To cancel the filter and show all parameters from the ECU, press the button (clear filter).

Adding parameters to a filter on the fly

If in the process of work you see a parameter that you forgot to enter into the filter, then you can quickly add it without interrupting the work.
You can quickly add a parameter only to a previously created filter.

Adding a parameter in the Dataflow window

To quickly add a parameter to the previously created filter:

  1. Select the required options;
  2. Click the button (add to filter);
  3. In the new window, select the filter to which the parameter will be added.

The options you selected will now be in the filter.

Section "Actuators test"

Many control units allow you to temporarily control actuators (injectors, motors, solenoid valves) to check their functionality.

Actuators test

The list of actuator tests depends on the specific ECU model.

Having chosen the actuator, you can control it using buttons or knobs. Sometimes, for convenience, the current readings of some parameters are displayed. Each actuator is tested in its own way.

Section "Configuration"

To reduce the number of ECU options and software options, ECU manufacturers make universal blocks that are configured for a specific vehicle configuration.

Actuators test

Configuration is also often referred to as coding.

The number of coding parameters depends on the specific ECU model.

ИChange the desired parameter and press the Ok button, the scanner will write data to the block.

Section "Utilities"

Actuator tests

This section contains specialized ECU functions such as adaptations, resets, etc.

Adaptations

Some components of the car systems, after installing new parts, or periodically, require an adaptation procedure. This can be, for example, teaching the control unit to the extreme values of the throttle sensor or the clutch pedal.

ПIt is strongly recommended that you read the vehicle repair manual for this procedure before adapting.
Reset adaptationss

The engine control system adjusts to changes in the parameters of the sensors. When installing new spare parts, the previously saved corrections must be reset to zero. To do this, you need to reset the adaptations.

If you are unsure of the function being performed, please refer to the appropriate manual before activating it. It must be clearly understood that after resetting the adaptation, with a partially faulty MAF, the engine may not start.
Resetting service intervals

Produced when changing the oil. The reset procedure is different for each manufacturer. In one case, it can be just one reset button, in another - programming the mileage interval until the next warning occurs. For a more detailed description, refer to the vehicle repair documentation.

Work in different versions of the program

You can work either in the old or in the new version of the program. The scanner must have the firmware of the version of the program with which you want to work. Therefore, if you want to switch to a different version of the program, the scanner must be entered into download mode and the firmware must be updated.
